Very good points. When you have a bit of exposure to non-Judeao/Christian tradition cultures, you see this type of behavior all the time. Idols are everywhere, religious protection symbols abound, and the day is filled with acts of placating gods and warding off demons. These cultures tend to be saturated with a preoccupation with offending the spirit world. They live under it's authority over every little thing in their lives. Medievel Catholic Europe was the same way. The idea that the veil between the spirit world and the material world was very porous kept people rather busy. The clergy's service fees probably helped mushroom the ideas as to how infected your world was with demons, and why you needed the church to intercede for you with the saints. Since Western Civil has become hell-bent on victimhood, and people have given up on personal responsibility, the IC has seized on the role of excessive parenting of childish people, in all sorts of ways.

One would be surprised how much paganism and gnosticism influences even the most mainstream churches of our culture. Thanks for that bret.

The only weapons needed against the evil ones are truth and loving others. Everything else is pagan.

This conversation was excellent! Glad to know that I am not the only one who rolls her eyes at spiritual warfare. Thank you! Love really is the most excellent way!

Great to hear and totally affirm what I've been thinking and trying to adjust my mind on. Speaking the truth and loving others is so simple and puts God in charge and not dependent on us to "speak down these spirits in high places" while using the name of Jesus as if He is a formula. "Do Not Take the Name of the Lord your God in Vain." That alone should make anyone think twice what is taught on spiritual warfare.

How crazy is it that Christians have been taught, and accepted that (1) God dwells within them, and (2) they may have a demon in them, on them, etc. It makes no sense.

Of course, those who still practice the spiritual warfare stuff would problem say I have a freedom demon in me. :)

It's interesting u mention voodoo darin.

Recently i invented a term 'voodoo christianity' to describe the way many christians in the IC act when they get into 'spiritual warfare' and their obsession with the devil... I have been out of the IC for quite a few years, but still see a couple people who go there, and i really notice the constant fear they live in ironically all whilst claiming to be "coming against fear" etc ...

When it comes to this subject i think that if you live in the realm of goodness or Gods love spiritual warfare takes care of itself.

This was a great podcast. Seems to me that the folks I know who are into 'spiritual warfare' have almost an obsession with it and with demons, etc. There's a better, healthier way to live than going through life thinking one is under attack when things don't go their way.

Pentecostals like the ones I grew up around would be lost without having the devil to fight. Who else would they blame for the unfortunate fruit arising from their poor decisions? Thank you for this excellent discussion.
