Hearing Your Heart Song

usDarin, Aimee and Kim talk about learning to hear and know your hearts ultimate desire rather than keeping a tally of little prayers along the path. Institutionalism has taught us to get sidetracked with day to day prayers and “things” and “stuff”, and not look at the bigger picture of what our hearts real prayer is. Most of us aren’t even sure what it is anymore. Once we’ve given ourselves permission to go back to our hearts, we almost always find that God has been answering our prayers all along.

I think all levels in prayer need to be developed. As I stated in a past blog, God is an intimate God. He is intimately acquainted with ALL of our ways. Yet I see the danger of never going deeper and always staying shallow. God is in the depths and shallows of our lives and values every level. so I believe our prayer life should be in accordance with that heart. I hope and pray I can get the AC in my car fixed! ;)

Great show! - "As a man thinks in his heart-" - "He will give you the desires of your heart." It says to prayer without ceasing & I don't think we're meant to be flapping our gums 24 hours a day. I've heard prayer described as putting money in a bank & our prayers don't get answered if we haven't prayed enough. If object of the prayer doesn't happen, somehow we must increase the amount of prayer - I know we'll "activate" a prayer chain - we can get millions praying in matter of hours. And it it still doesn't happen - I know let's all purchased 100 iPods, record our prayers in mp3 & leave them running around the house - maybe that will be enough. And then what happens? Sounds ridiculous when taking to the extreme. We're still left with God in our heart speaking to us through our hearts.

It seems when we are given scriptures that seem to contradict each other like, "the heart is wicked and deceitful above all things" and then "Love the Lord God with all your heart", your left in a bit of confusion, it almost seems like a trick or something. You have all these puzzle pieces of knowledge in a sense and you try to put them together in a way, that will make some sort of sense to you, but you can't use your heart, since it's deceitful, so you resort to having to use your mind to try and figure things out. Yep, I can relate, good podcast. I always wanted to trust my heart, but I was afraid to, I always wanted to love the people who God seemed to hate, and there is such joy and this probably sounds bizarre but, I'm so glad that I can love them after all, that it's okay to.

I am confused on how I know for sure it is from my heart, and not just something I "would like".

I had a personal revelation of the heart about a year ago concerning "He will give you the desires of your heart" I think we only look at as if we desire something and it is in His will he will give it to us. Instead of knowing He is in our heart and if we have a desire then He actually gave us that desire and we need to go get it. As far as knowing that it is not "wicked" is trusting that you know the difference between right and wrong. Also, just because something that you desire doesn't "pan" out when you "go get it" doesn't mean He didn't give you that desire it just means it was an experience of life. A part of living, a part of maybe hurting and sometimes something we needed to go through to get to the next level. Just my observation ;)

Thanks Kim, I do appreciate your help. It just sounds like that God will Sometimes give you the desires of your heart, and sometimes not. That's about as hopeful as gambling. What am I missing, why isn't this clicking for me?

If you desire something in your heart,God actually placed that desire within you.Sometimes we weigh the value of that desire on a world or life changing scale when the desire can be something simple and enjoyable.I believe that God just wants us to live and enjoy life. Some Desire's that God places in our heart are for other people and world and life changing situations, but most of the time the desires are meant for us personally to enjoy. The problem is people "wish" for the things that are in their heart and never experience them because they don't realize that the reason it is in their heart is because God placed it there for them to go get it and live it.Instead for most it lays dormant in there heart never brought to fruition waiting for God to fulfill it instead of themselves

Good words Kim :-) Very well put. David I wanted to respond to you - maybe I am misunderstanding you, but I think the issue with going "deeper" or staying "shallow" is that those two terms are quite subjective. I think of all the things I have heard from the pulpit like "pressing into God" and "going deeper," etc. But those terms are so undefinable that it leaves people confused and exhausted in their attempts to reach an invisible "level" with God. Does that make sense? - Aimee

David (Backus) - I forgot to say that I completely agree with you that he is in every level of our lives. The problem is when we become so "instance" focused that we totally lose sight of the essence and purpose of living and relationship with God. Thanks for your comments!! - Aimee
