The Relief Project Part 1, The Pastors Predicament

Darin and Hans begin a series of talks to Pastors who are struggling and in need of relief. This is a series that hopefully will be passed on to Pastors and leaders in the Church world that are open to something new. Enjoy!

Fellows ask your wives if being a pastor is much the same as being a wife and mother. You are expected to see to everyones needs, keep them happy and healthy. if anything goes wrong it is your fault. You lose yourself and who you are in the care of your family. You are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You place yourself on the back burner because your family comes first. Maybe women can relate a little easier to what being a pastor is like. I have always been sympathetic towards the pastor and what he has to deal with. I just have a small family of 4 to maintain, I can't imagine a whole congregation. And still you love that family you want to the best for them even if it means your own needs get unmet.

It is not heart of God to benefit his Kingdom at the expense of his children. God does not want to USE you. You can be a vessel of his love but he does not want to use anyone. God cares deeply for these pastors and it is so wonderful that your heart is full of compassion for them. A lot of them are simply tired and used and just need rest. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle an lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Mathew 11:28-30

Yeah "S" I think it is a lot the same as being a mother, except for the fact that most children really want to know their mothers heart and it seems that many times the congregation isn't the least bit interested in knowing the Pastor. they put him on a throne and then threaten him with banishment if he falls off.

Not all children want to know their mother's heart. But you can't resign as a mother. No amount of love and caring reaches some people who just want to take take take....

I agree wholeheartedly with what was said about God not using people. People choose to give of themselves, but it is never a "using" thing with God. We all know how unloving relationship with a user can be. In the same way I don't believe God "uses" our hurts and suffering. Rather He weeps with us.

This is a very good post. I'm learning more about pastors.
