The Responsibility of Believe

believeDarin and Robert have a great discussion about how people have misused the power of “believe” to get a temporary high or rush. Because so many of us Christians have been imprisoned in a world where there is very little truth to believe in, we end up using our “believe” where ever we can. Rather than place it in the things it was made for, we end up placing it just about anything that will gratify us for the moment. Most of us have been taught to put our believe in lies and half truths for so long that we don’t even know what’s real anymore. When you truly understand the power of your “believe” you begin to see how necessary it is that you take responsibility for where you place it.

Somewhere in proverbs it says "To a hungry man even a bitter thing is sweet." I really appreciate this conversation putting the onus back on me to guard and use my heart well. It was easier to just blame my upbringing and IC experiences for how far away I got from reality. Maybe I just couldn't see it until I became convinced that there really is NOW no condemnation to those who are in Christ. Anyway, I'm gonna go to a nice IC christmas eve service and i'm taking a heart full of love and joy with me. If you knew the kind of failures my life has been full of, you would be so amazed! Here's to the new year and 100 fold return on the seed you all are out planting!

Wow...now I know why this poodle we had once was humping all our stuffed animals...

I once had an online conversation with a member of the IC I went to and we talked about Frank Viola's book Pagan Christianity. I did not even say it this way, but she was like: Oh this IC is wrong?...Well, I dont care! So I knew, I dont even need to go on because she chose this. I was not ranting about Church, I just tried to explain to her why I would not attend anymore because she was asking.

I dont know if it is too easy to say that most chose to believe a lie. There are those I guess like the example of this Friend. But I can say that I believed the things I believed because I saw no other option I was told this way since I was little. I thought that was the way it would be, though my heart told me different somehow I could not get my hearts message until someone worded it out and I was like: Hey, thats interesting...yes I might take some courage and see where this leads. From there it was choice.

Great discussion. I like the comparison to being deceived and believing a lie. For me I just tolerated the lie for years. I went to the typical Word Faith Mega Church with all of the fixins and I knew in the center of my being the over the top prosperity gospel and hyper spirituality was wrong. I just tolerated it because I didn't want to go against the grain. But there came a time when I said enough is enough and called it for what it was. Also it is really hard for people to admit they are believing a lie because that would be to say they personally are wrong. And that is hard for people to do.
