Bono on Focus on the Family

I put the radio in our kitchen on for a minute while I was doing something yesterday evening. I caught the begining of Focus on the Family. I was somewhat surprised that host was introducing a interview they did with Bono. They spoke well of him and of his faith and activities and then went into the interview. I only heard the first question and him starting to respond and then I had to move on to things I was doing, though I would of liked to hear more.
Anyway, I thought it kind of interesting. I imagine their web site has some means of hearing the broadcasts.

I don't know anything about Bono but I've heard he's a really strong believer who lives his faith by giving generously.

The interesting thing to me is the fact of him and Focus on the Family meeting one another. It wasn't something I think would be entirely expected to happen.

Don't know a whole lot about Bono. I have heard that he's somewhat controversial in the Christian circle but don't I really don't know why. Why do you think it's odd that he and Focus on the Family would get together?

BTW, here's an interesting bit of trivia. Did you know that Darin and James Dobson are cousins? I'm not sure how close it is but I think they're about third or a little more.

So which one, or both, Darin and or James Dobson went to the trouble to find out they were related?
I do recall some controversy of Bono dropping the F bomb on some kind of national media. The Golden Globes maybe.
I think it could be that he doesn't tow the company line in all cases with regard to orthodoxy. I have no axe to grind with him. He just isn't as mainline as one would expect to be a pal of Focus on the Family. I think its cool they talked with one another. To me its evidience and an example of Christians finding unity in Christ that can tanscend the surface stuff.
A thought could be that both Focus on the Family and Bono are not quite as characterized by critics.

I don’t think either one of them went to the trouble to find out about the relationship. Sometimes we just know because Mama told us. I have a cousin (3rd I believe) who is very well known. I’ve never met him but I know about him because my mother told me. I also know about his brother who was not as well known and I never met him either.

I agree. Our unity is in Christ and, when we don’t let our differences get in the way, we can get along just fine. I also think it’s healthy to have friends who have a different point of view.

Bono is pretty amazing. I was watching a charlie rose interview with him at his home and he said, he had his kids baptized but that they did not subscribe to a church or denomination. He said that he didn't believe that following Christ was about following a teaching or group's beliefs. He is the very definition of free believer. They choose not to go to church and instead live out their faith. right on man.

It really is about choices, making the best choice for you and your family. Going to church isn’t necessary in order to be a strong believer but since it may be an enhancement for some, the best choice might be for them to go. However, for others, it may actually be a hindrance so it would probably be best for them not to go but each person and family needs to decide for themselves.

I think it’s great that Bono and his family have chosen what is best for them. It’s also wonderful that he and James Dobson could share life together as members of the same family despite that difference. The minor differences regarding church attendance often divide us from those who view it differently and that’s not good.
