Well, my 60th did not go as planned. On Sunday we were supposed to go to the home of one of our son's and his wife to watch Raven football. Turns out my family had planned a big surprise at their communty common room and had catering and decorations and about 30 or so people.
They all got there early to set things up and be ahead of my wife and I and our youngest son to yell "surprise". Well, an unexpectedly impactful little snowstorm came through and between the time my family and friends were driving and my wife and I and son hit the road it became increasingly impossible to drive. We have four wheel drive and still started skidding here and there and cars were off the road everywhere. We finally had to give up and go home. It wasn't until we got home my wife let me know what we had missed. So after a few hours to allow for snow plows and salt to take effect my family divied up the food etc and all headed to their respective homes, still taking hours to travel what is normally 20-50 minute drives. So everyone was at my surprise 60th birthday part except me, my wife, and youngest son!
That was Sunday, and my birthday was Monday. On Monday I had a vacation day and planned to take my wife and one of our grandsons to Longwood Gardens, a beautiful place with 1000 acres of grounds and a huge conservatory of plants. We are members and go there maybe 5-6 times a year. Well, I spent the first half the day plowing my driveway, (its a quarter of a mile long), then shoveling around our barn and chicken coop, then bringing up a couple loads of firewood.
So, it was not as planned.
But, on reflection, on my 60th birthday I experienced no aches and pains or inabilities to work all day, and actually enjoyed that. So its kind of nice to think I have been blessed with unreasonably good health. Our six children, three daughters-in-law, and son-in-law and family tried their darndest to give me a nice day and the intent is as good as the deed. So I am very blessed that way to have a close knit large family. We did have our grandson at home yesterday and on breaks and late in the afternoon he and I wrestled a lot and read books. He is 1 1/2 years old and a lot of fun.
My wife has been my more than faithful friend and love of my life for going on 34 years. We enjoy many things together. So, in one way it was just another day, but it is kind of impossible for me not to use it as an occasion for reflection and taking stock that I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Wow! What a crazy day! It's a shame you missed your surprise party but it sounds like you are blessed beyond imagination. The love of friends and family and being able to enjoy that every day is more precious than jewels or gold. Thanks for sharing the events of your special day with us.
